A new type of allergy medication to help deal with the itch associated with dog allergies is now available at Kirkwood Animal Hospital. CytopointR is the name of the vaccine dubbed the “itch vaccine” by the staff at KAH. The vaccine is a type of medication called monoclonal antibodies. The injected vaccine results in an increased level of antibodies in your dog that neutralize some of the proteins that cause your dog to itch. The injection lasts about one month. This medication can be used along with other commonly used allergy drugs and may help reduce or even eliminate the need for some of these drugs. Please ask us if you would like more information about this new vaccine.
