Many reports of the problems associated with the recent pet food recall have prompted numerous questions from our clients. We want to address some of these questions to ensure our clients take the appropriate actions to protect their pets. What do I do if my pet has eaten the recalled food? Kirkwood Animal Hospital recommends that you bring your pet immediately to the office for an exam and blood work and urine analysis. The suspected toxin in the food can cause kidney failure. Kidney failure is frequently deadly. In the early stages of kidney failure your pet will not show any clinical signs. Once your pet is vomiting, or not eating or drinking and urinating a lot it may be too late for treatment. Early detection and early treatment is of the utmost importance with toxin related kidney disease.Where do I look to see if the food I am feeding has been recalled? Check this web site, www.menufoods.com, if you do not get the answer there call our office and we will try to access the information for you. What do I do with the recalled food I have? ISU has the material to test the food, you will need at least two cups of food for testing. The email address for ISU is www.udpam.iastate.edu.What should I feed my pet now?
